If you or a qualifying family member served in the military, then you are entitled to a variety of benefits according to the law. Those who have served our country and retired honorably are given a variety of benefits through the government and certain members of the private sector who wish to honor their service. You should be able to receive retired military dental insurance that will allow you, your spouse and children to have the coverage you need to keep your oral health high.
Tricare dental insurance – a popular option.
One of the options that a large number of people in your shoes chooses is the TriCare Dental Insurance plan for retirees. There are several groups of retired military personnel who can qualify for this voluntary, purchased dental insurance plan, including those who served in the Army, Air Force, Nave and Marines and their immediate family members. This includes those who retired honorably from the National Guard/National Reserves. Additionally, you can enroll in this dental insurance program if you or a family member received a Medal of Honor, or if you are a survivor of a service person (family relative).
One of the reasons that this is such a popular choice is that it provides coverage both stateside and abroad. This ensures that you will be able to get the dental work you need done, even if on vacation or in another country for other purposes. Traveling is always easier when you know that you will be able to get the medical services you require should the need arise.
While family members are generally enrolled along with the eligible spouse, this does not have to be the case. If the former service member has proof of other insurance, such as through the Veterans Affairs Office, then the spouse and qualifying children are still able to receive the TriCare dental coverage for families of retirees. There are additional rules regarding qualification that you can review during the application process.
Tricare dental insurance covers most dental services, but is limited.
This retired military dental insurance option covers all of the routine services and preventative maintenance that you need for good oral health. Additionally, root canals and fillings are covered. You can also receive payment toward a variety or oral surgery procedures, including extractions, as well as crowns and dentures. For qualifying patients, certain orthodontic processes may be covered.
There is a maximum annual coverage amount, typically that number is $1,750 per covered person. For normal, routine and limited dental services throughout the year, that amount is only adequate. What if you or your child needs braces? The average cost of braces is around $6,000. Your TriCare dental insurance forces you to fork over an additional $4,000 plus to cover the insurance shortage. Even specialized dental services like a root canal and/or a crown will far exceed that small coverage amount.
Plus, only your immediate family is covered. What if you have cjildren or grandchildren living with you that need good dental care? Better be prepared to pay the entire dental bill for those folks if you have TriCare dental insurance.
