Q. What is AmeriPlan?

A. AmeriPlan is a Discount Medical Program Organization (DMPO), which means our members get pre-negotiated discounts off regular fees from medical, dental (discount dental plans), pharmaceutical, vision, and chiropractic providers within our network.

Q. How does this program work?

A. 10-14 days after we receive your application at our Plano, TX headquarters, we will send you a Member Information Guide and Membership Identification card. Present your member ID card whenever you visit an AmeriPlan provider and you will be eligible for a discounted fee. Payment is due at the time of service.

Q. Who are the AmeriPlan providers?

A. AmeriPlan has a large network of medical, dental, pharmacy, vision, and chiropractic care providers, with more being added each day. In our network you can find tens of thousands of medical practitioners, over 70,000 dentists, 50,000 pharmacies, 12,000 vision care providers, and over 7,500 chiropractors. This gives us one of the largest networks of providers in the country.

Q. How do I find an AmeriPlan discount provider?

A. If you wish to find one of our in-network providers, simply call our toll free member customer service number at 800-647-8421. You can also find a provider list online at www.ameriplanusaprovidersearch.com.

Q. I have a pre-existing condition. Can I still apply?

A. Absolutely. Because AmeriPlan is not an insurance company you won’t be excluded for any pre-existing or ongoing medical or dental problems. However, we cannot accept pre-contracted treatment plans for orthodontic treatment in progress at the time of your application.

Q. Is there a waiting period?

A. Unlike many insurance plans, there is no waiting period with AmeriPlan. You can start using the program right away and enjoy your instant savings with no caps or limits on visits.

Q. How much does it cost to join? How do I make payments?

A. The Dental Plus membership costs just $24.95 per month for a whole household! A household membership includes all the permanent residents within the household. Payments can be made either monthly or quarterly by credit card or electronic bank draft. Invoicing will be done for annual memberships that are paid one year in advance.

Q. If I sign up for the Dental Plus membership, how much discount will I get on dental fees.

A. The discount varies depending on the type of dental work you receive, but our members can save 25% – 65% on all restorative and cosmetic work (such as fillings, crowns, and braces), and up to as much as 80% off of preventative work (such as cleanings and x-rays). If you need to see a specialist you can expect a discount of up to 25%.

Q. Does it cost extra to receive the pharmacy, vision, and chiropractic benefits?

A. No! The prescription drug coverage, vision program and chiropractic programs are included in both the Dental Plus membership and the AmeriPlan Healthcare membership at no extra charge!

Q. Can I purchase the AmeriPlan Healthcare membership as a standalone without buying the Dental Plus membership?

A. No, the Dental Plus membership is required if you wish to benefit from the AmeriPlan Healthcare membership as well.

Q. Will I receive a separate membership ID card for the AmeriPlan Healthcare program?

A. Yes. All household members will receive four (4) cards: two Dental Plus cards and two AmeriPlan Healthcare ID cards.

Q. Does AmeriPlan Healthcare work like Dental Plus in that it is contracted on an annual basis and cancelable at any time?

A. Yes.

Q. Do AmeriPlan Healthcare program members receive a discount on medical services?

A. Yes, many services will qualify for a discount.

Q. Can I use the AmeriPlan Healthcare program if I already have health insurance?

A. Yes, but it will be up to the medical provider to decide whether or not they will accept both. As with the Dental Plus program, if a member has insurance that will always be the primary form of payment.

Q. Can I use the AmeriPlan Healthcare program if I have Medicare or Medicaid?

A. No. Medicare providers are not allowed to charge Medicare patients a discounted price.

Q. Can I downgrade from the AmeriPlan Healthcare program to the Dental Plus program?

A. Yes.

Q. Are there discounts for emergency services?

A. Emergency services may or may not be contracted within the AmeriPlan Healthcare program. If the charges are significant, the services may be eligible for our Hospital Advocacy Program.

Q. What is the Hospital Advocacy Program?

A. If you have a bill from a single hospital visit totaling $2,500 or more, the Hospital Advocacy program is in place to help you with your medical bills. This is true even if the charges are incurred from multiple providers on the same visit. Through our advocacy program you will be partnered with a patient advocate who will negotiate on your behalf and pursue a wide range of options including payment plans and government entitlement programs in the effort of making your bill more manageable. There is a short waiting period of three business days from the active date of your membership before you can utilize this program.

Q. Do I have a choice of which hospital will be used?

A. Yes.

Q. Does AmeriPlan reimburse doctors for their services?

A. No. Within all our health programs the provider receives the full payment after discount from the member due at the time services are rendered.

Q. Why would a medical provider decide to participate in the AmeriPlan Healthcare Program?

A. While there are many advantages to joining our network, one of the biggest reasons is that it is just easier for the medical provider. Dealing with insurance companies and trying to collect payment in a timely manner is a very time-consuming and tedious task for many medical providers. With AmeriPlan, the provider is assured of payment at the time of service. There is no paperwork to fill out, file, or follow-up on, which reduces overhead office administrative costs. When a provider joins the AmeriPlan network, he knows he is joining a network of like-minded professionals who don’t want to be answering to managed care of the insurance companies.
